Richard has been a tour guide in France since 2013. Childhood vacations to all over France sowed the seeds of his love for the country, and he finally took the plunge and moved to Paris in 2011, to study for a Master’s degree in the history of Paris. It was the best decision he ever made.
It’s fair to say that Master’s degrees in Parisian history don’t necessarily lead to typical or plentiful career paths (!) but Richard was lucky to stumble across his dream job of tour guiding almost by accident. He initially trained as a walking and bike tour guide around Paris and the palace of Versailles (still his favorite tour), and in 2019 gained the French government guide conférencier accreditation, allowing him to guide guests around the great museums of France as well.
Richard now aims to bring the highest quality, personally tailored, bespoke tours to his guests. There is no such thing as a typical, or standard tour with Richard as each visit is unique to that family; that might be a tour of the Champagne region’s most storied vineyards. It might be a walk along the Normandy beaches where so many Allied soldiers gave their lives on D-Day, or those battlefields of the Western Front of WW1. It might be an exploration of the medieval grandeur of Paris, or of it’s legendary revolutionary figures. It might be a ride around the grounds of the most gorgeous chateaux of Versailles or of the Loire region, or it might even be a visit to discover what might be called ‘real France’, to the rugged hills of the Languedoc.
Now, Richard lives with his wife Órlaith and young son Arthur in the Montmartre district of the city of Paris, and together they love nothing more than chilling out by the river Seine, doing ‘research trips’ around the country to discover amazing new places to show guests round, or grilling on the terrace of their ramshackle old village house among the vineyards of the Corbieres wine region.
